Hi everyone!

I'm Calvin, a free-lance writer and editor with an ongoing blog and portfolio of articles written and published on Medium. These articles cover a wide host of topics including, but not limited to, language learning, culture, current affairs (particularly pertaining to Africa and East Asia), historical research, literature, and humour/satire.

I am currently a full-time student pursuing my bachelor's (a double-major in History and English) at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. My expertise thereof lie in the political and socioeconomic histories of sub-Saharan Africa and China, and I am a passionate advocate for the strengthening of Africa-China relations. I see history as a means to inform our future, and for me it is important to foster and develop global partnerships to learn from one another's successes and failures. Hence, I am committed to upholding effective communication as well as the sharing of unique perspectives when it comes to global issues.

As with many of my articles, I am a language-guru; my love for the English language is boundless, and I have a limited working proficiency in both Afrikaans and Mandarin Chinese. When I have a goal in mind (whether that is to attain fluency in a language or succeed in any other project) it is very hard to offset me.

And, of course, it goes without saying that I am a complete book-nerd at heart, forever reading; you'll never catch me without a book! If there was ever one reason why I was put on this planet, it was to read and write. I'm here for a good time, and I plan to write all about it!
